Skurup

Skurup is a place ( tätort ) in the southern Swedish province of Skåne County and the historical province Scania.

It is the capital of the municipality of the same name. Its development has Skurup mainly due to its location on the railway line Ystad Malmo. The settlement advertises with the slogan popular "When in Europe - do not miss Skurup " for themselves.

The development consists mainly of villas and single-family homes, but there are certain areas with apartment buildings. In Skurup there are four schools for elementary and middle school and a high school, which is housed in the former agricultural school.

Economy and Transport

Most residents commute to work in Malmö or Lund. The largest companies in the resort are Skanem, Lidbergs grafiska and PostPac, which belong to the printing and packaging industry. The offices of the municipal administration and the biggest business of the community focus in Skurup.

The railway line between Malmö and Ystad was electrified in 1996. Today, there is also a direct connection to Copenhagen. The airport for the region Skåne, Malmö Airport, only 15 minutes' drive away from the center.

History

First, there was a village that was a church in the 12th century. In the Middle Ages, a castle was built, which was demolished after the construction of the castle Svaneholm. After that, the village belonged to Skurup Good Svaneholm. At the end of the 18th century, the peasants were allowed to live directly on your own property, which led to a temporary resolution of the village.

A new upswing came with the inauguration of the new railway line in 1874. Were created new businesses, which manufactured such as bricks, dairy products and agricultural tools. The 1914 gained status of a market town ( Linköping ) had no more significance after the administrative reform of 1971.
