Slavko Vorkapić

Slavoljub " Slavko " Vorkapić (Cyrillic: Славољуб " Славко " Воркапић, English Slavko Vorkapich; born March 17, 1894 in Dobrinci, Austria - Hungary ( now Serbia ); † October 20, 1974 in Mijas, Spain ) was a Serbian- American American film director and editor who was especially known for his assembly sequences. He also taught for some time at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Life

Slavko Vorkapić was at that time Austria - Hungary born on March 17, 1894 in the village Dobrinci. His father Petar Vorkapić, a town clerk, gave him a good education. After primary school Vorkapić therefore visited a known secondary school near Sremska Mitrovica, where he made the first steps towards art and drawing. He went with Mileva Maric, the first wife of Albert Einstein, to school. Vorkapić continued his education in Zemun and later in the Famous Art School in Belgrade.

After Vorkapić had emigrated to the USA in 1920, he found work in Hollywood in 1921, first as a painter and actor. He later made a name for himself as a special effects artist, as an editor and as a director. He is responsible for a number of films, he is mainly documentary and experimental art known primarily for its assembly sequences, which he turned for various film studios as part of feature films. For the sequences he used a variety of techniques and cinematic graphical way to represent shirred time a part of the action.

From 1949 to 1951, Vorkapić Professor in the Department of Film at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles. In the 1950s he taught in Belgrade followed, where in 1955 he his last full-length feature film shot.

Slavko Vorkapić died on October 20, 1976 in Spain of a heart attack.
