Slavkov Castle

The Austerlitz Castle ( German Austerlitz ) is located in Austerlitz in Okres Vyškov in the Czech Republic. Especially famous castle and town were the Austerlitz battle of Austerlitz.

History

Originally on the site of the castle was a fort that was built by the Teutonic Knights in the early 12th century and built the largest Moravian Coming here. The castle belonged to since the beginning of the 16th century, the Moravian noble family of Kaunitz, it served as a residence. Ulrich von Kaunitz had the castle rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. From 1696 it was rebuilt under Dominik Andreas von Kaunitz according to plans of the Italian architect Domenico Martinelli in the Baroque style and 50 years later completed under Wenzel Anton Kaunitz by Ignacio Valmaggini and Wenzel Petruzzi.

The U-shaped castle has 115 rooms. Worth seeing are the Hall of Ancestors and the Rubens room ( without works of Peter Paul Rubens) and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The oval Social Hall (Historical Hall) has a spatial and acoustic originality and contains rare frescoes of the Viennese painter Joseph Pichler. In this hall the armistice between France and Austria was after the Battle of Austerlitz on December 6, 1805 signed.

The castle is located in the vaults of a historical museum and a multimedia entertainment to the battle of Austerlitz.

The castle garden in the extent of 15 acres in 1774 on the basis of the Palace of Versailles as a French baroque garden with a central channel (now dry) created and redesigned in the 19th century in the English style. The garden on the terrace lock with sculptures by Giovanni Giuliani was already about 1702 by Dutch gardener. Recently, the original shape is restored Baroque.
