Slovenia national football team

The Slovenian national football team is the selection team of the European country of Slovenia. The first international match was Slovenia in 1991 after the split of the country of Yugoslavia. Prior to the Slovenian players played in the Yugoslav national team.

The biggest successes reached the Slovenian footballer with the qualification for Euro 2000 and the Football World Cup 2002 and Football World Cup 2010, where they already were eliminated respectively in the preliminary round.

When qualifying for the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany Slovenia failed to Italy and Norway.

For the last Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa, the national team was able to prevail in the relegation against Russia. In the first game of this tournament they won 1-0 against Algeria. Against the USA, it was enough after 2-0 lead only to a 2:2 and 0:1 against the England meant the end in the first round, as the U.S. in the parallel running game just before the final with a 1-0 victory in Slovenia and England passing by.

Participation in World Cups

Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia until 1990 while the discharged Tournaments. So took the Slovenians, Branko Oblak 1974 Srečko Katanec 1990 for Yugoslavia at the world championships. After the collapse of Yugoslavia, Slovenia adopted the first part in the qualifiers for the 1998 World Cup. In four attempts, the team failed to qualify for the World Cup twice. In qualifying for the 2002 World Cup, Slovenia was able to prevail against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Participation in European football championships

Slovenia adopted after the collapse of Yugoslavia for the first time in the qualifiers for Euro 1996, and in part so far was able to even qualify for a final. Branko Oblak 1976 he took also the European Championships in Yugoslavia and Srečko Katanec 1984 at the European Championships in France in part.
