Smash Hits is a greatest hits album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was released in the UK in 1968 in mono and 1969 in the United States in stereo. The double platinum album reached number 4 in the UK album charts and # 6 on the Billboard 200, it appeared four months after the last release of the band while they worked on the successor Electric Ladyland. Included are the first four UK singles Hey Joe, Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary and Burning of the Midnight Lamp. In addition to the corresponding B- sides four more songs from the first album Are You Experienced been used yet. This is on Smash Hits, the first album release of Burning of the Midnight Lamp ago, almost half a year ago Electric Ladyland. The compilation of the different titles USA version results from the not so successful there single releases of eg Purple Haze or Foxy Lady, so that Reprise Records was looking at a release of a best -of compilation as too early.
