Smith & Tinker

Smith & Tinker was an American computer game developer, located in Bellevue (Washington). The company was founded by Jordan Weisman, Tim Lebel and Joe Lawandus in April 2007.

On 15 October 2007 the Company announced that it has acquired licenses from Shadowrun, MechWarrior, Crimson Skies and other FASA titles.

The first game of Smith & Tinker will be an online game (online battle game) called Nanovor, whose target group will be 7-12 year old children. The public beta version was released in May 2009., The expected success was, however. Subsequently, a further maintenance of the game did not come. A port to Apple devices was planned and led to layoffs of more than half of the employees, however, these plans could not be implemented.

On June 8, 2009, Smith & Tinker announced that they are currently working with the computer game developer Piranha Games on the fifth part of the MechWarrior series.

The end of October, 2011, Piranha Games announced further in the game to work and I have made a license agreement with Smith & Tinker. However, it should appear as an online game after the free-to -play model called MechWarrior Online in the second half of 2012.

Since Nanovor failed to meet the expectations and appropriate rescue measures failed, the studio was closed. The previously acquired rights to Mechwarrior are now at Microsoft and partly at Piranha Games.

The name of the company is based on a fictional character in the book series Land of Oz, which is an artist and inventor.
