The Sneek Railway Station is a railway station in the town of Sneek in the province of Friesland (Netherlands).

History

The building was built for the commissioning of the first part of the route Leeuwarden Stavoren and inaugurated on 16 June 1883. Beginning in 1883, Sneek also as the terminus. Two years later the section was opened to Stavoren. 1921 was opened towards Bolsward for transporting goods by a tram line. This line was discontinued in 1968. 2007, plans were to let go of steam locomotives on the track Sneek - Stavoren, what with the opening of the theme park Stoom city Sneek is to be realized in 2012.

Building

The station building was built in 1882 according to a draft standard that was used at four other places:

  • Station Gorinchem, built in 1881, demolished in 1971.
  • Tiel Station, built in 1881, still preserved.
  • Appingedam station, built in 1883, demolished in 1981.
  • Delfzijl railway station, built in 1883, still preserved, but otherwise bricked.

By July 2004, the building was used as a station house. Subsequently, the model railway museum Nationaal Model Poor was housed Museum after renovation and remodeling. The museum was opened by the Queen's Commissioner, Ed Nijpels, on 29 January 2005. The building is also the taxi center of Sneek is housed.
