Șoarș

Soars [ ʃoarʃ ] ( German Saddle Rosch, Hungarian Sáros ) is a municipality in the district of Brasov in Transylvania, Romania.

The place is also known under the outdated names romanian Şoaroşa and Şoarşiu, the German band Ash and the Hungarian Nagysáros.

History

Soars was founded in 1150 by West Rhine colonists, the future " Transylvanian Saxons ". It belonged to " Schenker chair." This Transylvanian administrative unit formed in the 14th century out, the name derives from the Court chairs the suburbs and is a Transylvanian cal unique. Soars first mentioned in 1206 in a document of the Hungarian King Andrew II, is in the Walloon nobles Johannes Latinus the "terra Cwezfey " gift. . Besides Soars also the neighboring villages Barcut, Cobor, Felmer and Selistat mentioned in this document. It is assumed, which was destroyed in the " Turkish invasion " from 1438, originally built by the settlers in place Romanesque basilica. So Cardinal John granted the Jacob Church in Soars in 1450 an indulgence of 100 days for a new building. 1466 as a further discharge of 40 days has been granted for the church by the Sibiu chapter dean John.

In 1500, 38 Saxon economists with a working farm in the village are detected. After the renewed Turkish invasion of the Year 1493 in the neighboring Sibiu chair sat in a Soars the expansion of the church to the fortified church. Thus, the account books of the city and province of Sibiu recorded in 1506/7 a tax rebate of 12 guilders " per structura eccelesiae in Saros ".

Until 1690 the church will gradually be expanded only to the fortified church and then to a church castle by the inhabitants of the town. They thus formed to save in raids by Turkish and Tatar cavalry behind fortified walls for the farmers the last option. After elimination of the risk of the need for Wehrbarkeit the Church had done in SOARS. When necessary modifications later this became less and less considered. In 1900, then the outer fortifications were demolished by the municipality.
