Sobrance

Sobrance ( Sobranz German, Hungarian Szobránc ) is a small town in eastern Slovakia and also the easternmost city in Slovakia. It has about 6,200 inhabitants.

Sobrance is located on the northern edge of the East Slovak Lowland, near the Ukrainian border. It is an important road junction ( European route 50) and wine region.

History

The area of the town is an old settlement site ( finds from the Neolithic Age ). The first source of evidence dates from 1344 (under the name Vasaros Tyba ). The city was chartered the settlement 1351st In Czechoslovakia Sobrance until 1960 and then again since 1996 the capital of a Okres. 1939-1945 it was annexed by Hungary.

The northern district (spa Sobranecké kúpele ) existing mineral springs were already known in the 14th century, the bath house is now part of the district hospital.
