Soesterberg

Soesterberg is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht.

It belongs to the municipality of Soest, and lies about five kilometers northeast of Zeist, on the road between Amersfoort and Utrecht. 2001 Soesterberg had 5,798 inhabitants.

Between 1954 and 1994, the local military airbase Soesterberg by NATO was used for the U.S. Air Force as a base ( Soesterberg Air Base ). During this time, many American families lived in the village of Soesterberg. The Dutch military aviation began in 1913, it ended in 2008 after withdrawal of the last helicopter.
