The Medical University of Sofia (Bulgarian: Медицинският университет в София ) is a founded in 1917 by Ferdinand I, Medical University in Sofia, Bulgaria. It is divided today into four faculties; Rector of the University is Prof. Wanjo Mitew.

History

The Medical University of Sofia was founded as the School of Medicine at the University of Sofia. In 1950, she was then separated from the Sofia University and converted into the Medical Academy Sofia ( Медицинска Академия София ). Director was Prof. Marko Markov. 1950, the Continuing Education Institute was established that the hospital is now Queen Johanna ( Царица Йоанна ).

In 1954 the Medical Academy Sofia was converted into a Medical School. In 1972, she was after a major restructuring again the Medical Academy of Sofia. In 1990 the Medical Academy Sofia was dissolved and instead their individual medical institutions were independent Medical higher education institutions. The organizational form was reintroduced into faculties.

Faculties

The Medical University of Sofia has four faculties:

  • Medical school
  • Dental Faculty (dentistry)
  • Faculty of Pharmacy
  • Health Sciences ( Обществено здраве - public health - Health Management ) ( Degrees: Bachelor, Master )

By order of the Bulgarian Parliament of 21 May 1995, the Medical University of Sofia was renamed Medical University of Sofia. The University is affiliated with three medical schools ( колеж ). The university has 14 teaching hospitals - including the Aleksandrowska Hospital.

The training is - as is common in medical education - divided into preclinical and clinical part.

The Medical University of Sofia has 1,969 employees (university teachers, research assistant, assistants ) and about 4,000 students - including 800 foreign students, 120 doctoral Andan. At the Medical University of Sofia graduate 2,200 doctors their specialist training. There are awarded research grants.
