K

The Snøveg ( Fv243, German " snow road " norw provides: Snøvegen ) is a 48 km long side road in Norway. The road connects the two places in the municipality of Aurland Aurlandsvangen and Lærdalsøyri in the community Laerdal and leads from sea level up to an altitude of 1309 m above sea level and then back down to sea level. The name refers to the large amounts of snow that are up in the summer at the highest point. In winter, the Snøveg is locked because of the great masses of snow. The winter closure generally lasts from mid-October to early June.

The Lærdalstunnelen tunneled the Snøveg, making it an all-weather connection of the two places Aurlandsvangen Lærdalsøyri and secure. Today, the road is used above all as a driveway for high-altitude summer pastures and as an excursion street for tourists. Directly from the site Aurland, the road leads through many bends upward and offers fantastic views of the Aurlandfjord.

In June 2006, the spectacular views Stegastein was opened a few kilometers to Aurlandsvangen.

The Snøveg is referred to by local people as Aurlandsvegen.
