History

A deed of gift of the noble lords of Montmorency ( Seigneur de Montmorency ) is handed down from the year 1110. In the deed the parish Sosoi the Abbey of Saint -Florent de Saumur is ideal. It is believed that the name derives from the Latin Sosiacus, which is in turn due to the name Sosius. The place name means therefore owned by the Sosius or place of Sosius. The site has been touched by a Roman road, which was a part of the important Paris- Rouen. Further evidence of the Gallo- Roman past of the place but have not been discovered.

The rolling hills locally favored the cultivation of vines and fruit trees. The flat valley floor was swampy, however, so that the population settled on the slopes of the hills.

In the Middle Ages various fiefs emerged in the community, including one that bore the names of towns. One of these lords, Jean de Soisy, sold to Louis XIII. that grounds at Versailles, on the famous Royal Castle was built later. The last of the Lords of Soisy died in 1703 in the uprising of the Protestant rebels in the Languedoc. The monastery of Saint- Denis also had land in Soisy. A place called Fosse- aux- Moines ( Mönchgraben ) may be an indication of a monastic fish farming.

In the 18th century the growth of the nearby city Paris led to a boom in vegetable production at the site. Villas and manor originated from wealthy. In 1846 the railway line from Paris to Pontoise was put into operation. In 1850 the municipality of Enghien- les- Bains was established, at the expense of communities of Soisy and Pontoise. In the course of industrialization in the 19th century, the gypsum deposits in the hills at the site were significant. The led to the formation of gypsum mining operations and in the 20th century, the emergence of a processing industry. Also the fruit and vegetable cultivation in the 19th century witnessed a further boost to the detriment of viticulture, whose acreage 1780-1901 shrank from 54 acres to 10 acres.

An Act to promote housing construction, the Loi Loucheur, 1921 issued by the Minister of Labour and Social care, Louis Loucheur, led to a building boom and to further growth of the population. By 1954 the city's population had grown to 7,000 and by 1964 to 13,000 people. The opposite of capital cheaper rents and the fast rail link to Paris promoted population growth.
