Sokol (Moscow Metro)

Sokol (Russian Сокол pronunciation? / I ) is a 1938 eröffneter Metro Station, Moscow Metro on the "green" line. His name (literally, " hawk" ) he owes the same neighborhood in which it is located.

Location

The station is located between the stations Sokol Aeroport and Woikowskaja the Samoskworezkaja line. It has two outputs on both sides of the main road Leningradski Prospect, the out of town in the Leningrad highway, also known as M10 trunk road, passes over. History and Architecture

The metro station was opened on 11 September 1938 simultaneously with the commissioning of the first section ( Theatralnaya Sokol ) the green line. Since then, the station served as the terminus of the line, was close to her, a train depot for the fleet of Samoskworezkaja line, which also was named Sokol and until today is operating. Originally the station had only one entrance on the south side of Leningradski prospectus, while the northern exit was built only in 1949.

The station hall, which was built after a design of the Brothers Yakovlev, has with its vaulted ceiling structure, which is divided into two in the middle of a series of square support pillars on similarities with a cathedral. In this form, the hall is strongly reminiscent of the Berlin U -Bahn station Heidelberger Platz. The walls of the hall are covered with marble from Birobidzhan, the flooring is made of red and gray granite.
