SÅkon Matsumura
Matsumura Sokon (Japanese松 村 宗 棍) was one of the original karate masters of Okinawa. His exact birth and death is not clear on this, there are different sources: ca 1809-1901, 1798-1890, 1809-1896 and 1800-1892.
Biography
Matsumura Sokon was in Yamagawa, Shuri in the Ryūkyū Kingdom (today: Yamagawa, Shuri, Naha, Okinawa Prefecture) born. His first karate teacher was Sakukawa Kanga, the five years it - until his death - taught. Before Matsumura himself died in Shuri, he taught karate, such as Anko Asato Anko Itosu, Choyu Motobu, Motobu Chōki, Kentsu Yabu, Nabe Matsumura, Chotoku Kyan, Kiyuna Pechin, Ryosei Kuwae and Sakihara Pechin, which it later have brought notoriety.
