The Sol Duc River is a river in Clallam County in the U.S. state of Washington. The 126 km long river flows through the northwestern Olympic Peninsula and rises in the Quillayute River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean after a short run. The name Sol Duc is taken from the language of the Quileute and is translated as " Flowing water ". By the year 1992 the spelling Solduck was used since Sol Duc is the official spelling. Main tributaries of the Sol Duc River are the North Fork Sol Duc River, the South Fork Sol Duc River and Bear Creek, Beaver Creek and Lake Creek.

Course

The Sol Duc River originates in the Seven Lakes Basin at Mount Carrie in the northern Olympic Mountains in Olympic National Park. In the National Park of the Sol Duc River flows northwest over over the 10 -meter-high two-step Sol Duc Falls and built in 1912 at the Spa Sol Duc Hot Springs. Just before the park boundary flow to the North Fork and the South Fork. The river now flows through the 1.5 km wide and 56 km long Sol Duc Valley river valley called by the Olympic National Forest. From the National Park boundary follows U.S. Highway 101 along the riverside. From the north of Beaver Creek flows added, according to the site of the Sol Duc Sappho flows more south-west and south. This flows from the north coming from the Lake Pleasant Beaver Creek. Several miles long, flows the Sol Duc River very close to the Calawah River, a tributary of the Bogachiel River. The river meanders through its valley now, until it comes together just before the Pacific with the Bogachiel River and the Quillayute River forms which opens at La Push in the Pacific.

The river traverses vast forests, which, however - have been cut at least once already - to the forests of Olympic National Park. Since the Sol Duc River is not fed by glaciers, it is an excellent spawning habitat for rainbow trout, Cutthroatforellen, king salmon, sockeye salmon, humpback salmon and silver salmon, and therefore a popular fishing area.
