Solar eclipse of August 21, 1914

The zone of totality of the total solar eclipse of August 21, 1914 extended across North America, Europe and Asia.

Course

Counter clock 11:25 (all times are in Universal Time, UT ) launched the darkness on the far north of Canada. Then the sun eclipsed in Greenland and against 12:15 clock came the umbra in Norway. He then moved over Scandinavia and then reached the Russian Empire, where the eclipse maximum was reached at Naratsch Lake. Until 13:00 clock the darkness reached the Crimea. Then moved across the Black Sea to the Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) and then to Persia (now Iran ) where they (now India) ended around 13:43 clock off the coast of British India.

Others

The eclipse occurred a few days after the beginning of World War II. In Gumbinnen (now Gusev ), where the day before the Russians and the German had fought in the Battle of Gumbinnen, the sun was darkened to around 96 %. An influence on the fighting, as for the eclipse 585 BC. has survived, but they had not.
