Solar eclipse of November 23, 2003

The total solar eclipse of November 23, 2003 took place exclusively in the southern hemisphere and was seen only in the southern Indian Ocean and Antarctica in its total phase. Partially it could be observed the eclipse from Australia, New Zealand and the southern tip of South America.

As with the annular eclipse of 31 May of the same year, the shadow path moving in the "wrong " direction from east to west. The reason for this is analogous to the previous darkness, and is connected with that of the cone of shadow the Earth just touched and at the same time was the time of darkness near the summer solstice, this time only on the south instead of the north hemisphere.

The following eclipses

The following central darkness only took place on 8 April 2005, in this hybrid darkness underscored the core shadow over the South Pacific. In 2004, there was no central darkness and only two partial, and that on April 19 and October 14.
