Solomon Taylor North

Solomon Taylor North ( born May 24, 1853 at Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, † October 19, 1917 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1915 and 1917 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Solomon Taylor attended the public schools of his home. In the following six years he taught himself as a teacher. After that, he was for 20 years principal. He also worked in the timber trade, as a farmer and in the banking industry. He was also a member of the National Guard of Pennsylvania. He later became a director of the Punxsutawney National Bank. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1898 he took part in regional Republican convention as a delegate for Pennsylvania. Between 1905 and 1907, and again in the years 1911 and 1913 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1914, North was in the 27th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of JN Langham on March 4, 1915. Since he was not nominated by his party for re-election in 1916, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1917. He died on October 19, 1917 near Punxsutawney, where he was also buried.
