Solvang is a city in Santa Barbara County in the U.S. state of California with about 5,300 inhabitants. It is located not far from Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley, a coastal wine region in Central California.
Solvang ( "Sunny Field " in Danish ) was founded in 1911 by a group of Danish educators on a former Spanish mission country. This built there first a primary school and later college.
Consistently held in the Danish half-timbered house style to Solvang has become a major tourist attraction. The city offers with Danish bakeries, restaurants and shops a hint Denmark in sunny California and therefore carries the nickname "Danish Capital of America ". In addition, invite a number of wineries in the wine-growing region as a pretty young Santa Ynez Valley for wine tasting.
On the edge of town is the Santa Inés Mission, which was founded in 1804 as the 19th California mission and now a California Historical Landmark is. During the 20th century, the mission building was completely restored.
Solvang was one of the venues of the 2004 release, the Oscar-winning film Sideways and thus has gained more popularity.
Near Solvang is the Neverland ranch of Michael Jackson.
