Sŏngyo - guyŏk is one of the 18 districts of Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. The district is bordered to the north by Tongdaewŏn - guyŏk, to the east by Ryŏkp'o - guyŏk and Sadong - guyŏk and on the south by Rakrang - guyŏk. It was established in September 1959 as a municipality.

The Taedong Bridge and the Yanggak Bridge connect the district with the north of the Taedong - gang nearby Chung- guyŏk and the island Yanggak. The district itself is intersected by a moat.

Buildings and facilities

The district was also conceived as an industrial center after the reconstruction after the Korean War in the 1950s.

In the district of Chang Chung is the Cathedral of Jangchung. It is the seat of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Pyongyang in North Korea and one of the four Christian Churches of North Korea. In the district Taehung -dong is the Pyongyang Han Tok Su University of Light Industry and the Sŏngyo market, a central wholesale market in the district.

Administrative divisions

Sŏngyo - guyŏk is divided into twelve administrative units divided Dongs. The districts Namsin -dong, Chang Chung- dong, Ryulgok -dong, Mujin -dong, Kangan -dong -dong and Sanop are in turn two, the districts Tungme -dong -dong and Songyo divided into three administrative units.
