Sonja Morgenstern

Sonja Morgenstern, divorced Siegel, ( born January 22, 1955 in Frankenberg / Sa. ) Is a former German figure skater, which was launched in a single run for the GDR.

Career

Morgenstern launched for the SC Karl- Marx-Stadt and was coached by Jutta Müller. In 1966 she was Spartakiadesiegerin in figure skating. Two years later, she participated in the Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble for the GDR. As the first female athlete, she jumped at the World Championships in 1971 in Lyon triple Salchow and finished with the third best freestyle sixth place. Their greatest success was winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in 1972. During the same year she was Olympic Sixth.

In 1973, she had to quit her figure skating career due to injury and studied education in Zwickau. The teaching profession, she had to give up in 1981 because her son Michael took the first four years of life due to illness intensive care. Later she completed a qualification as a beautician and adults worked in this profession.

Morgenstern trained mid-80s briefly Stefan Lindemann.
