Sonja Schöber

Sonja Schöber ( born July 9, 1985 in Dortmund- Horde ) is a German swimmer. She was 2007 German champion in the 100 m breaststroke and German vice- champion in the 50m breaststroke. She lives in Dortmund- Horde and starts for the SG Dortmund her coach Volker Höltke. She is currently studying English Literature and German Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum.

Career

Schöber swims since 1 January 1995 for the SC Dolphin Dortmund 1968. During competitions it competes for the swimming community Dortmund, a grouping of five Dortmund swimming clubs. Since 2001, it is funded by the German Swimming Federation, initially it was some years a member of the C- squad, in early 2006 she was appointed to the B-team. Moreover, it belongs to the perspective squad for the Olympic Games in 2012. Doping allegations

As announced on 18 November 2009, there is a suspected case of doping against Sonja Schöber. At a doping control after the training camp in the summer of 2009, striking testosterone and epi- testosterone levels were observed. Pending the outcome of the procedure Sonja Schöber was locked so she could not participate already in the German Short Course Championships 2009, from 26 to 29 November.

On April 29, the athlete was sentenced at the arbitration hearing in Kassel to a one-year competition ban, which was set to November 5, 2010. In November 2010, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport extended the ban for another year until 5 November 2011.

Sporting successes

International success

In the Junior European Championships in 2001 in Malta, she won the gold medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 3:50,42 minutes and finished fourth over 50m freestyle in 0:26,59 minutes. The year before, she won the silver medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay at the Junior European Championships 2000 in Dunkirk.

At the European Short Course Championships in 2006 ( December 4 to 7, 2006 in Helsinki) she reached the finals three times in individual competitions. About 100m individual medley she swam with 1:02,09 minutes Platz 7, about 50 m breaststroke with 0:31,81 minutes and about 100 m breaststroke with 1:08,13 minutes each rank 8

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she took part. But their results were not sufficient to survive a round. In the two preliminary heats of the 100m breaststroke disciplines and 200m individual medley, she was last in each case.

German Championships

In the 119th German Swimming Championships ( 11 to 15 April 2007 in Berlin ) she reached the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:09,20 minutes. It pointed the German record holder Sarah Poewe (SG Bayer Wuppertal / Uerdingen / Dormagen ) and the defending champion Simone Weiler ( SV Nikar Heidelberg) on the third and fifth. As a final Dortmunder Frank Henter had won in 1988 a German championship on the 50m butterfly in swimming. On the 50 -meter breast - route it was with 0:31,86 minutes second with just under half a second distance behind Janne Schäfer ( Wolfsburg TV Jahn ) and two hundredths of a second before Kerstin Vogel ( SV Rhenaniastraße Cologne). In addition, she won the 50m freestyle with 0:26,29 minutes in fifth place and about 200 m breaststroke with 2:33,53 minutes sixth.

At the German Championships Winter 2006 ( 23 to 26 November 2006 in Hanover ) she reached the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke with 0:32,33 minutes. She was beaten only by Janne Schäfer, who set a new German record in 0:30,89 minutes.

In the 118th German Swimming Championships ( 20 to 25 June 2006 in Berlin ) it reached a bronze in the 50m breaststroke in 0:32,40 minutes and three fourth places over 200m medley, 100m breaststroke and the 4 × 100 m medley relay.

  • German Short Course Championships 2005 in Essen: three silver medals over 100m breaststroke in 1:08,22 minutes, 100 m Individual Medley in 1:02,38 minutes and about 200 m medley in 2:15,37 minutes

Other successes

She is German high school champion in 2006 in the disciplines 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley as well as Vice - high school champion in the 100 m breaststroke and 100 m freestyle. Furthermore, it is a multiple German vintage champion in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

As a final swimmer SG Dortmund and friends she wore on September 9, 2006 at the public baths Dortmund to a new Guinness world record in swimming relays over 100,000 m at. The old world record was undercut with a time of 22:48:43 hours at 5:33 hours.

Awards

Sonja Schöber was chosen as Dortmund's Sportswoman of the Year 2006. Furthermore, it was five-time winner of the Sponsorship young athletes the city Sparkasse Dortmund and the German Olympic Society. She was a student of the Phoenix Gymnasium in Dortmund- Horde, where she received her high school diploma in 2005.

On the day after winning the silver medal at the German winter championships 2006, she fell while Warming Up an improperly fastened starting block plate on the foot, causing a deep laceration and a ligament on Zehgelenk. All other starts at the Winter Championships, she had to cancel then. At the German Championships 2004, she was unable to attend because she had to be performed emergency surgery for a perforated appendix.
