The Sonnenjoch (also Sonnjoch ) is between Alpbach, Wildschönau and Kelchsau. The summit is adjacent to three Tyrolean districts (Kitzbühel, Kufstein, Schwaz ) and five municipal boundaries meet here together: ( Alpbach, Hart im Zillertal, Hopfgarten im Brixental, Stumm and Wildschönau ).

The Sonnenjoch is less often committed in comparison to its northern neighbor peaks, the Great Axe. The most popular ascent variant runs from the Schönangeralm in the Wildschönau over the bar riser ( waterfalls), then on to Gressenalm and from there to the summit of Sonnenjochs.

In winter, this mountain is a popular ski touring summit.
