Alpbach ( Aibach dialect ) is a municipality in the district of Kufstein in Tyrol in Austria with 2569 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district of rats mountain.

Geography
Alpbach is located in the Kitzbühel Alps in the inner Alpbach Valley at the foot of the 1898 meter high Gratlspitz. The Inneralpbach ( Innătåi dialect ) is the head of the valley.

History
First documented in 1240, the village was until the 1920s without road connection to the Inn valley and kept thus long traditions and customs at. A role played by the alpine farming and mining, which reached its climax in the 15th century. In the 1930s, the place was discovered by tourism. A building code adopted in 1953 wrote a traditional building in front of the wood style, which the creation of large, changing the townscape hotel buildings prevented, as they are elsewhere to find in tourist regions. The community received awards for their efforts in the "most beautiful village in Austria " and " most beautiful flower village in Europe ". The place was also the main location for the popular series torrent.
Name and etymology
Alpbach [ Alpax ] is the dialect as Aibach ( Bairische transcription) [ ɔɪ̯b̥ɔx ] and its inhabitants called Åibékchă [ ɔɪ̯b̥ɪkxɐ ].
The name of Alpbach is derived from the Alp, but not by Bach. Rather, - oh here Kollektivsuffix so Alpbach can be understood as a " collection of huts ". The first written mention of the town was about 1150 ( questionable ) and from 1231 to 1234, where he was also written Alpbach. However, already in the Middle Ages the word "Bach" was crossed ( for the first time in 1300 as Alppach, later also Altpach ). Today the creek is also represented in the coat of arms. He is kept in silver to symbolize the former mining in the region, while the green represents the fertile pastures.

European Forum Alpbach
The European Forum was founded by Otto Molden and Simon Moser, European University weeks in August 1945 and is run as a European Forum Alpbach since 1955. It brings together international figures in science, business, culture and politics, including several Nobel laureates annually in late summer at the Congress Centrum Alpbach European Forum Alpbach.

Alpbach is also known for its folk musicians. It is worth mentioning here, especially Peter Moser, who entered with a lot of use for the preservation of countless songs and sages in the Alps. Furthermore, awareness gained Alpbach, Alpbach Valley as the location of the television series torrent.
Economy and infrastructure
Tourism occupies a special position in Alpbach. - Erwin Schrödinger (1887-1961), physicist and philosopher of science, Nobel laureate in physics in 1933. Erwin Schrödinger spent the last years of his life in Alpbach and is buried at his own request at the village cemetery.
