Schwoich

Schwoich is a municipality with 2305 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Kufstein in Tyrol, Austria. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Kufstein.

Geography

The village is situated in the Tyrolean lowlands, 5,5 km south of Kufstein, on a high plateau on the right of the river Inn. The municipal area extends from Innufer to the Walleralm at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser and the Locherer chapel to " Häringer waterfall ". Thus, the total area of ​​2,200 inhabitants small village is 18.77 km ², but large parts of forests and pasture or grazing land to be taken.

History

The population of the municipal area began as early as mid -sixth century, and the name Schwoich was first mentioned in 1280. At that time, the terms " Swiuch " and " Schweng " were used, indicating the mossy ground in parts of the town. This is also the biggest reason for occurrence of blueberries, the so-called " cranberries ", the Schwoich in the surrounding countryside made ​​famous and make.

Already in 1841 was in the church, burned in the so-called "Russia", by Anton Kink cement, the coat of arms of the municipality emphasizes this in a kiln on a blue background. This Schwoich considered the birthplace of the Austrian Cement Industry.

Sports

So Schwoich hosts one of the best curling teams in Central Europe and has already produced many Olympic athletes in the sports of cross-country skiing, biathlon and luge.
