The television series torrent was first broadcast between 1993 and 1997 in ARD evening program. The focus of the stories are the adventures of the local mountain rescue service and the everyday experiences of their relatives. Spectacular climbing actions, sensational rescue efforts and a lot of criminal cases provide excitement. The name stands for a fictional torrent site somewhere between Bavaria and Tyrol, in which the events are to carry. In the series of Garmisch- Partenkirchen is given as near town. The series, however, was shot in the Tyrol, in particular in the Alpbach valley.

Framework for action

Head of the Mountain Rescue is Martin Kramer, who lives in a former farm and has an insatiable passion for electronics. The tinkerer works, among them a mountain navigation system in its development, he encounters many obstacles. Conny Leitner, a somewhat reckless sport dealer, runs a business in the valley. Often he plunges headlong into adventure and must be brought by his colleagues with a lot of coaxing to his senses. Dr. Günther Hofer is the only doctor in the village and by the way even with the mountain rescue service active. The Bachelor makes again and again hopes for a variety of ladies, but does not get beyond superficial acquaintances.

Alois Angerer is tenant of a gas station, which he runs together with his mother Erni. He is in a relationship with Inge, the chubby assistant in Conny's Sport Shop. The young, handsome Bernd Ferstl is a policeman and avid climbers. His colleague, the squat Herbert computing Bacher, holds the position in the valley, unlike the others, he is not a " Bergwachtler ". Emmeran Nahaider mountain is host and does volunteer work in the operations center of the mountain rescue service. The hotel owner Christl Meier Hofer is a close friend of Martin and has to cope with the loss of her two sons. When she is offered the post of UN ambassador leaves torrent and moved to Geneva.

Martin Kramer has two roommates: his enterprising daughter Lissi Kramer, who is at the beginning of the series with it and the young journalist Michaela Summer, the daughter of an old love, which arrives after Lissi's " departure " from Australia and is native to torrent. Both ladies have a relationship with Connie, who, however, continually proves to be philanderer and prone to infidelity. Michi works for the regional daily newspaper, thus promoting some scandal to light. Her mother Helen, an old friend Martin, you follow after some time; also she travels to Australia from the adopted country. Helen Martin comes closer again and opened in an old country cottage bistro. The unsuspecting Michaela is suddenly confronted with the fact that Martin is in fact her father.

The primitive Franz Hamberger is responsible board member of the Mountain Rescue Service for the Wildbacher branch. Wherever he may be, he makes important and represents the Bergwachtler fait accompli. Especially Martin is pleased with his plans usually little, but it goes Hamberger like no other, to let his charm. With a special task force to precede the Mountain Rescue technically, he suffers severe shipwreck. Hamberger regularly appears on the Kramerhof and warm homemade treats Helens. His son Tobi is a junior member of the Mountain Rescue and full of energy. The lively director of the Tourist Office, Eva Neureuther, is a good friend of Martin and on all occasions locally.

The men of the mountain rescue team must prove their worth in many exciting episodes in which there is often a matter of life and death. Nevertheless, the series is spiced with a good dose of Bavarian humor and not without a serene earthiness.
