Sonny Red

Sonny Red ( Kyner ) ( born December 17, 1932 as Junior Sylvester Kyner in Detroit, there † 20 March 1981) was an American hard bop saxophonist of.

Sonny Red Kyner first played C- melody saxophone, but decreased in 1949 for the alto saxophone over. From 1949 to 1952 he worked with Barry Harris, in 1954 tenor saxophonist with Art Blakey and Frank Rosolino, 1957, he came to New York and has since worked as a freelance musician. He took on plates with Clifford Jordan, Paul Quinichette, Yusef Lateef, Tommy Flanagan / Curtis Fuller as well as under his own name.
