Sooke

The small town of Sooke is located about 20 km from Victoria, Vancouver Iceland, Canada located at the Sooke Basin, a bay that is connected to the Juan de Fuca Strait only via a narrow opening. It belongs to the Capital Regional District and is located on Highway 14 Driving time Sooke - Victoria is approximately 40 minutes. East Sooke, about 10 minutes from Sooke, is a purely residential area surrounded by a dense forest area.

History

The name of the settlement dates back to the anglicized form of the tribal name of the resident T'sou - ke. The first traces of European settlement dates back to the late 19th century. The official documents of the province ( here in BC Gazetteer ) the settlement is first mentioned as a settlement with the issue of 1909 and recorded in 1913 in the cards. Opened in 1934 in the town of the first post office.

The granting of local autonomy for the church took place on 2 September 1999 (incorporated as a District Municipality ).

Flora and Fauna
