Sorong (city)

Sorong is a coastal town on the Indonesian part of the island of New Guinea. By administrative abjunction of the West of West Papua (or Indonesian: West Irian Jaya ) in 2003, it is now in the province of Papua Barat. The city is situated on the northern Pacific coast in the extreme west of the Vogelkop peninsula and is home to one of the centers of the oil and gas industry in the country. This results in increasing prosperity and economic growth. After the capital Manokwari to Sorong is the second most important city of the province.

The city shapes a beautiful beach promenade and a contrasting cityscape. It is the gateway to a delicate small islands to species-rich coral reefs and other biological diversity on land. Located in the city is the conservation authority PCA. Approximately 30 km away on an island, the regional airport. The connection to the Island as well as parts of the Vogelkop Fakfak on the southwest coast of Irian Jaya. In addition, supplies the city ship traffic.
