South Park (Oxford)

The South Park is a park in the southern English city of Oxford. The approximately 20 -acre site located on a hill; in addition to the directly adjacent Headington Hill Park is the largest park in the city. South Park is to a large extent from a free surface, allowing a view of the entire medieval old town of Oxford.

In the park itself hosts several events: the annual parade of the Lord Mayor as well as the annual fireworks of the Oxford Round Table. Due to its view of the park was used as a filming location for numerous film and television productions that were filmed in Oxford, as well as the open space lends itself to concert events.

The land was privately owned until 1939, the Morell family, who also had their headquarters on him. 1939 acquired the Oxford Preservation Trust the park and handed him in 1951 to the city of Oxford. Directly across from South Park is the Headington Hill Park, the two are only separated by the main road from Oxford to Headington and later London.

Originally from Oxford band Radiohead held at the album release of Amnesiac on July 7, 2001, a mini-festival in the park. In addition to Radiohead played Beck, Sigur Rós, Supergrass and Humphrey Lyttelton. There were over 40,000 people - the largest ever crowd in the park.
