The Novorossiysk was a flight deck cruiser of the Soviet Navy. She was the third ship, which was built under the project 1143. Between 1982 and 1991 it was in use before it was scrapped in 1997.

History

The ship was added to the fleet list of the Soviet Union on 24 June 1975 and placed September 30, 1975 by Shipyard 444 in Nikolayev on Kiel. It had in the construction of some changes compared to the previous two ships to be implemented. The number of aircraft carried has increased by two and amplifies the flight deck to carry heavy transport helicopter can. The ship was equipped with a tow sonar and should bear as a replacement for the OSA missiles of its two sister ships, modern 3K95 - Kinschal missile armament. Since were not available when the equipment of the vessel but, the second air defense missile system was lacking in Novorossiysk.

The ship was initially assigned to the Black Sea Fleet after its commissioning in 1982, but moved as early as next year after Severomorsk the Northern Fleet. Having participated in several exercises, she was transferred in 1984 as part of a trip with several trips to Africa, the Pacific fleet to Vladivostok.

After cuts in the military budget, the Novorossiysk was established in 1991 initially mothballed. 1993 damaged a fire in the engine room, the ship so heavy that its scrapping in 1994 was decided. The ship was disarmed and sold to South Korea, where it was canceled in 1997.
