Space Brothers (manga)

Uchū Kyodai (Japanese宇宙 兄弟, dt " Space Brothers", also known as Space Brothers) is a manga series by Japanese artist chuya Koyama is published weekly since 2008 in the book published by Kodansha magazine Morning. It tells the story of two brothers to be who decide after observing a UFO astronauts. The manga won several awards and was adapted in the years 2012-2014 by A -1 Pictures and directed by Ayumu Watanabe as an anime television series. A live-action adaptation launched on May 5, 2012 in Japanese theaters.

Action

The focus of the events is the life of the two brothers Mutta and Hibito Nanba. Both observed together in 2006 a UFO flying to the moon and then decide to become astronauts to be able to find traces of their observation even in hope. While it has Hibito already managed in 2025 to become an astronaut and allowed to fly to the moon, fighting Mutta, whose life is out of luck, in contrast to his brother, to be able to still fly for his dream to Mars until he finally is accepted to be allowed to participate in the astronaut training.

Formation and Publications

The manga series Uchū Kyodai is written and drawn by mangaka chuya Koyama. The first chapter was published in the magazine published by Kodansha Morning in issue 1/ 2008 of 6 December 2007. Since a new chapter is published weekly. To date ( March 30, 2013) were the chapters to 23 tankōbon editions summarizes the published quarterly.

Adaptations

Anime

Based on the plot of the manga of the same anime television series Uchū Kyodai was A-1 Pictures Studio in animation. Directed by Ayumu Watanabe, the same Nazo no Kanojo X worked on well at first.

First aired the series with 99 episodes in the early hours of April 1, 2012 to March 22, 2014 on the Network NNS to the beacon transmitter Nippon TV. Also, the series is offered as a simulcast of Crunchyroll in the English speaking world under the title Space Brothers stream with English subtitles.

In the U.S., Videovermaktung the series of Sentai Filmworks licensed.

Film

5 May 2012 launched an implementation as a live-action movie to be played in Mutta of Shun Oguri and Okada Masaki Hibito. On its opening weekend, he was behind Thermae Romae # 2 in the Japanese box office.

When South Korea's Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, the film won the Audience Award and was named Best Picture.

Reception

The manga was nominated in 2009 and 2010, twice for the Manga Taishō, but had to admit defeat and Thermae Romae Chihayafuru. In 2011 chuya Koyama won with Uchū Kyodai the 56th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category along with Shohei Manabe for Yamikin Ushijima -kun. Likewise, he could in the same year the Kodansha Manga Award win in the general category, which he shared with Chika Umino for Sangatsu no Raion.
