Space Generation Advisory Council

The Space Generation Advisory Council in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Application ( SGAC ) is a global network. It linked organizations, space interested young people, students and young professionals and NGOs. The goal is to create for the United Nations, above all, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, and their bodies, unified goals about the future of space exploration.

Since 1999, it has a seat on the advisory committee established in 1959 on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space ( COPUOS ).

The SGAC has its headquarters in Vienna ( Austria ) with regional representatives in Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America, Africa and Asia Pacific.

History

SGAC was founded in 1999 in Vienna by alumni of the International Space University Strasbourg at the conference UNISPACE III. Over 160 young people from 60 nations took part in the founding forum.

Projects

The SGAC organized every year since 1999 a Space Generation Congress (SGC). The last SGC took place in late September 2012 in Naples. It supports and organizes a wide annually recurring projects:

  • Yuri 's Night, a global space party in honor of the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, on April 12 of each year.
  • Cosmos Education, a practical training initiative for Africa.
  • Permission to Dream, world -wide network of interested in astronomy and astrophysics adolescents.
