Spanish ship Juan Sebastián Elcano (1927)

The Juan Sebastian de Elcano is a Viermastrahschoner of steel and the official sailing school ship of the Spanish Navy. It is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastián Elcano.
General
. 1927, the ship ran from the pile and began its maiden voyage in 1928, it belonged to the Spanish Navy, made the ten world travel ( no Cape Horn circumnavigation, but via the Panama Canal or the Strait of Magellan ) and 76 training rides (as of end of 2004). It took and takes part in many international sailing meeting. It is currently the world's largest sailor with schooner rig ( not a pure Gaffelschoner because of Fockrahtopps ) and after Sedov and Krusenstern 's third largest sailing ship in the world ( not counting cruise ships ) in driving. His Majesty King Juan Carlos I was with the Queen on 26 and 27 October 2003 Guest on board the ship.
Its four masts hot not as usual:
- (Palo ) Trinquete ( foremast ), ( Palo ) Proel Mayor ( main mast ), ( Palo ) Mayor popel ( mizzen ), Mesana ( mizzen ), but
- Blanca, Almansa, Asturias, Nautilus (named after four former Spanish sail training ships ( three-masted ships) ).
The construction plans of the Juan Sebastian de Elcano were used again to build the sister ship Esmeralda Spanish as a second sail training ship. According to financial and political problems, the Esmeralda was finally Chilean training ship.
