Spastin

Spastin (English spastic paraplegia and 4 protein, short SPG4 ) is a protein. It is encoded by the Spast gene is localized in human chromosome 2 ( 2p22.3 ). There are two isoforms of Spastins the basis of two existing start codon in the idiot gene. Spastin has two structural domains: an AAA domain ( ATPases associated with a variety of cellular activities, including AAA - cassette) for the hydrolysis of ATP and an MIT domain ( microtubule interacting and trafficking ) to interact with microtubules. Spastin plays a role in the breakdown of microtubules, a major component of the cytoskeleton.

More than 150 different mutations of the gene are known idiot. They lead to a sub-form of hereditary spastic paraplegia, the autosomal dominant spastic paraplegia 4 ( SPG4 ).
