Speedcar Series

The Speedcar Series was a race series which fought out their race exclusively in Asia. The first official season began in November of 2007. Already after two seasons of racing was discontinued.

History

In the spring of 2007 it was announced that at the end of a new racing series will start. One of the first driver, who joined immediately in the series and served in the following months, in some ways as an advertising figure, was the former F1 driver Jean Alesi. Johnny Herbert, Gianni Morbidelli and Stefan Johansson explained briefly that they are entering into the new series. The first test, which was also Tony Ave and NASCAR driver Mike Bliss took part, was held in early March 2007. The first official race of the Speedcar Series began on November 3, 2007 at the Bahrain International Circuit in as- Sachir, Bahrain. End of March 2008 also declared the former Formula 1 champion Jacques Villeneuve and IndyCar and former Formula 1 driver Heinz -Harald Frentzen their way into the Speedcar Series. After the 2008/ 09 season of racing has ceased operations.

Format of the race weekends

The events were held on two consecutive days:

Day 1:

  • Official Training
  • Qualification
  • Race 1

Day 2:

  • Training ( Warm Up )
  • Race 2

Both races were started flying, went over a distance of 90 miles and lasted a maximum of 45 minutes. A refueling of cars during the race was not allowed.

Rolling stock

In the Speedcar Series vehicles were touring car silhouettes used ( stock cars ), similar to those of the NASCAR Sprint Cup. As in a one-make cup possessed all participants on the same technical material. The unit chassis decreed it a V8 engine me about 630 horsepower and a four-speed transmission. The racing tires slicks or rain tires, these innovations came from Michelin.
