Spore print

A spore powder impression is a common so-called release preparation in mycology. This allows for large mushrooms basis of mature fruiting bodies the color of Sporenpulvers be determined - a feature which is often intended relevant. To this end, the separated layer of the fruit spurs with a suitable base to be collected.

Method

A spore powder impression initially requires a white or - on suspicion of a white or very light spores powder color - contrasting colored sheet of paper as a base. Then, the fragments of the fruiting body are positioned. The fruit layer has ideally downwards so that the spores can turn freely. In fruiting bodies, which are divided into hat and stick, just the stem is removed and placed the hat with the downward facing fins, tubes, etc., on the surface. Then it should be placed over the product a sufficiently high glass or other suitable vessel in order to prevent drift of the spores, and in particular their drying. For safety's sake, the cover can be swung out beforehand with water, to provide a moist microclimate.

Ideally sufficient spore powder accumulated in a few hours on the base. For a correct assessment of the spore powder color, it is advisable to pile up the powder with a razor blade or other suitable instrument and flatten slightly. This ensures that the substrate does not show through, and the color distorted.

Micro - preparation

The method is also suitable for the manufacture of a preparation for microscopic analysis. Because unlike a Quetschpräparat the spore powder contains only mature spores. Immature spores, however, can in their characteristics (eg dimensions and ornament ) deviate from the norm and cause errors.

Used as a base, a glass plate, the spores can be transferred easily later to the final support - who used the same direct a slide to collect the spores can even save yourself the transfer complete.
