Spurius Lartius

Spurius Larcius flavus from the gene Larcia was according to legend, in the years 506 and 490 BC the Roman consul. His counterpart should be Titus Quintus Sulpicius Came Herminius Aquilinus or Rinus Cornutus been.

The identity of the Larcius is not safe because it is done in his first consulate under different names: Sp Larcius in Livy and Dionysius, Rufo et Aquilino in the fasti consulares; his second consulate is not mentioned in Livy and Cassiodorus. The younger annalists sets Larcius associated with different events of his time. In the year 508 he is said to have fought together with Horatius Cocles and Titus Herminius against Porsena, where he is to be together was one of the last defenders of the Pons Sublicius. He also allegedly participated in the side of his counterparts in a battle against the Etruscans and procured grain stocks. Dionysius calls him in connection with the dictatorship of Titus Larcius, he scores with his counterpart in the second consulate of the five sent to Coriolanus consuls and finally declared him Interrex, is said to have held the comitia in the year 482 BC.

Robert Werner maintains Spurius Larcius for a historical figure, since the gentile name of Etruscan origin and the Larcier are mentioned only in the early phase of the Republic, later interpolations are therefore not to be supposed, however, dated Spurius Larcius - like Titus Herminius - in the late period of the monarchy, so that the offices of Larcius should be deleted in the early phase of the republic.
