Square des Batignolles

The Square des Batignolles, created in 1862 by the engineer Jean -Charles Alphand, located in the 17th arrondissement in Paris. He is one of 24 built under prefect Georges- Eugène Haussmann parks.

Formation

In 1835 was a serving as storage space plot a public square: La Place de la Promenade. This served as a meeting place for the inhabitants of the municipality at the time still independent Batignolles. On the first January 1860 Batignolles the city of Paris has been connected. During the construction of several new parks and gardens in Paris under Napoléon III. was out of the public square then the Square des Batignolles. 1894, the park was once again expanded and reached its present size.

The park today

In the park there is a stream that ends in a small lake. In the middle of the lake, the " Les Vautours " rises ( to German: The vultures ) called artwork of Louis de Monard. Also located in the Square des Batignolles the bust of the French poet Léon Dierx.

Particularly impressive are the four large sycamore trees that were planted in 1840 and 1880 and are 32-38 feet high, with a circumference of almost 6 meters.

Besides the four play areas for children in the corners of the park there are plenty of benches that invite to relax. The play areas offer a wide variety of activities: There is a spot of table tennis or table football to play, and there is a playground, a sandpit and a small paved path for rollerbladers. The carousel, swings and mini kart track are chargeable. A crepe stand invites you to a cozy picnic.

The main trail, which extends from the end of the Rue Cardinet to the exit direction of the church Sainte -Marie des Batignolles, is named after the French chanson singer Barbara " Allée Barbara ". Perlimpinpin, one of her songs, refers to the Square des Batignolles:

On its south west side of the park is bordered by the railroad tracks leading to the Gare Saint- Lazare. The Place Charles Fillion forms the south-eastern and north-eastern boundary. The Rue Cardinet runs at the northwest end of the park.

Like all parks and gardens in Paris and the Square des Batignolles is closed at night. In the winter months it closes at 18:00 clock. In the summer months it is open until 20:30 clock. In the morning the park 7:30 clock for visitors is open. Closed the park remains even in the event fierce wind.

The nearest metro station is Brochant, which lies on the line 13 in the direction Asnières- Gennevilliers. Even closer is the station Pont Cardinet, which can be reached with the Transilien of Saint- Lazare or from some western suburbs ( including Asnieres -sur -Seine, Clichy- Levallois and Nanterre ).
