Sremčica

Sremčica ( Serbian Cyrillic Сремчица ) is a suburban settlement of the municipality Čukarica in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Sremčica is located south of Belgrade and starts about 2 km south of the neighborhood Železnik (the centers of the two settlements 6-7 km apart). It is a typical road house settlement, with many side roads that lead almost all the main road Beogradska. The main street extends over 6-7 km throughout Sremčica. The northern part of the local community ( mesna zajednica ) is a subkommunale administrative unit named Gorica, which, however, popularly Naselje ( Serbian for "settlement " ) is named. The southern part is organized as a local parish of the same name as the whole settlement, Sremčica. The so-called Gorica is characterized by high-rise buildings and apartment blocks, while the southern part Sremčicas by single and multi- family homes.

Population

The rural settlement is among one of the fastest growing suburbs of Belgrade since 1970. Due to their accelerated growth, which happens mostly illegal, there are significant shortcomings in the infrastructure, so most parts of Sremčica problems with the water supply and wastewater have. With over 50,000 inhabitants Sremčica one of the largest settlements in Belgrade ( 1948: 2 076 inhabitants). According to the 2001 census, 89.45 % Serbs here, 2.86% Roma, 1.5% Montenegrins, 0.85% Yugoslavs and 0.6 % Macedonians live. In Sremčica there is a connection of the urban public transport in the 10 km distant Belgrade ( Bus No. 511 and 512).

Geography

The grounds surrounding the settlement consists partly of limestone. One of the most famous features in Sremčica is a small pond, Rakina Bara. There is a small natural lake with an area of ​​3 acres in a limestone mine. Full Sremčica is surrounded by Lipovica ( šuma = forest ), which connects several Belgrade suburbs together. Previously Sremčica was considered as a nature park of Belgrade, as it is at 200 m above sea level and is encircled by the Lipovica.
