Srisailam Dam

The Srisailam Dam is a dam on the Krishna at Srisailam in Kurnool District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and one of the 12 largest hydroelectric power plants in India. It is located on Krishna above the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.

The dam was constructed in a deep gorge in the Nallamala Mountains. It lies 300 m above sea level. The inaccessible dam is 145 m high and 512 m long and has twelve radial openings. The hydroelectric power plant on the left produces 6 * 150 MW and on the right side 7 * 110 MW.

The dam was originally built only for hydropower production, but was later converted into a multi-purpose facility for water supply. It makes for irrigation in the districts of Kurnool and Kadapa, which lie in the drought- prone Rayalaseema region.

In recent years it has repeatedly given to this exceptional dam flood.
