Neither gates, fences or even dressing rooms were available and had to be cut for every game on and on. On October 12, 1924, the newly created border Brügglifeld stadium was inaugurated with a friendly match against the reigning Swiss champions FC Zurich.

Eight decades later, the appearance of the stadium has changed. So burned on 22 September 1929, the wooden grandstand in Brügglifeld completely off, but could be rebuilt within two months. In 1982 the still existing grandstand was opened after about a year of construction. She was followed in the 90s, an additional grandstand, while the standing ramps have been previously subjected to a total renovation. In 2003, the existing several years security fence along the standing ramps of FCA fans was removed. About the same time was the first time a severed from the rest of the stadium Away sector.

With regard to the year 2008, the construction of a new home for FC Aarau was planned as part of an urban development project. The Mittelland Arena, the heart of the Plateau Park, was once supposed to include 12,500 seats. On 25 September 2005 the population of the city of Aarau rejected the plans for the new stadium and the new shopping center. The FC Aarau AG and the city of Aarau is currently working on a new solution to save the club from relegation. The Swiss Football Association tolerated the stadium Brügglifeld after 2008 no longer in the top flight.
