Geography

The county town divides the municipality of Winterthur from north to south in the middle. It includes not only the Old Town, the center of the city, the central city neighborhoods Tössfeld, Brühlberg and Neuwiesen that lie to the west of the city. To the south lies the district of the Holy Mountain, which comprises the eastern half of the city forest Mountain Ash and the eastern half of the width on the slope of mountain ash. To the north lies the district Lind, which extends north across the eponymous hill Lindberg.

Education

In the city district there are seven kindergartens ( appearance Lind, Frohnberg, Interior Lind, Neuwiesen, Tössfeld, Tössfeld Pavilion and the Sprachheilkindergarten Affairs Lind ), five primary schools (Old Town, Brühlberg, Geiselweid, Neuwiesen and Tössfeld ) and the upper school houses Holy Mountain and St. Georgen. History

The first settlement in the area of today's Old Town, there were around 600 to 700 AD, this first settlement was probably still in competition to top Winterthur. Only later, when the Kyburgs had taken over the town planning, Winterthur was able to maintain its supremacy. From there the story of Winterthur is roughly congruent with the history of the city of Winterthur. A part of the former county area was separated in 1973 and brought together with a part of the circle lakes for autonomous county Mattenbach.

Arts and Culture

Twelve of the 17 municipal museums are located in the county; many directly on or in the old town, including the Museum Oskar Reinhart, the Art Museum, the Natural History Museum and many more. On Lindberg, " On Römerholz" housed in the former mansion of the Oskar Reinhart Collection Oskar Reinhart.

In the old town of Winterthur regularly held events that are of importance for the city. This includes the Albanifest and various stalls and processions ( Winterthur Fasnacht, tails Moving, ... ). Afro-Pfingsten Festival and the music are more cultural events with tradition. In the Eulachhallen the end of November / beginning of December is held each Winterthur's fair.

Traffic

At the main station at the western end of the old town all the traffic of the city comes together: all railway lines, almost all of the city bus lines and national bus and bus lines. In Eulachhalle - also in the neighborhood Neuwiesen - playing handball clubs and scouts Yellow Winterthur Winterthur, the latter was in the 90s and early 2000s, the most successful Swiss Handball Club. After the district school in the neighborhood Rychenberg Lind named are the Floorball Club Hockey Club Rychenberg Winterthur, and the split-off since 2000, former women's section of the HCR, the Red Ants Rychenberg ( Swiss record champions and European Cup winner in 2005 ).
