Stadttheater Klagenfurt

The Stadttheater Klagenfurt is a municipal theater of the city of Klagenfurt in Austria.

History

The theater was built in 1605-1620 as the ball home for the aristocracy and served their social pleasures. Strengthened with time occurred Italian guest performances, which gladly took on the journey from Venice to Vienna in Klagenfurt halt. The Ballhaus thus integrated more and more into the Austrian theater of the 17th and 18th centuries and was gradually transformed into a theater house. The actual opening of the theater took place in 1737. The theater was under the Estates of Carinthia.
