Stalybridge Celtic F.C.

Stalybridge Celtic ( officially: Stalybridge Celtic Football Club ) is an English football club based in Stalybridge, North West England, which since 2004 in the Conference North, the sixth- highest division in England, plays. The venue of the association is the 6,500 -seat end of Bower Fold. Only in the years 1921 to 1923 the club played in professional football since the club is in the plane of non -League football active.

Club history

The club was founded in 1909 in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. The club played in the first two seasons in the Cheshire Amateur League, the club was accepted into the Lancashire Combination in 1911. Greatest success in the Combination was a fifth place in 1917, Stalybridge played the next four years in the Central Division. The club was one of the founding members of the Football League Third Division North in 1921. However, Celtic withdrew after only two years out of the league and then played for many years in the Cheshire County League. During this time, Stalybridge won several trophies unterklassige as the Challenge Shield, Cheshire County League and Midland League, it was not possible to Celtics yet to return to professional football. After that, the club played five years in the North West Counties Football League. Stalybridge won in 1984 and 1987, the first division of the North West Counties League and promotion to the Northern Premier League, the then six English top flight. During this time, some successes were celebrated, the Cheshire Senior Cup, Presidents Cup and the Northern Premier League were recovered. The team played in the 2001/ 02 season in the Football Conference, but increased after one year already again. In 2004, Stalybridge one of the founding members of the Conference North, where the team plays since then was. During the club in the 2006/07 season only four points remained above the relegation zone, missed the Celtics 2008/ 09 with 70 points, close the play-offs.
