Standard Oil of Ohio

Standard Oil of Ohio or Sohio was an American short oil companies in Ohio, the descendant of Standard Oil and later, now BP, was acquired by British Petroleum.

It comes, like many other oil companies, from the break-up of Standard Oil as a result of allegations of monopolization in an antitrust trial of 1911. Stations operated company in the state of Ohio under the brand name Sohio, in other states with the same logo but under the brand name Boron ( Boron Oil Co. is a subsidiary of Sohio ).

BP was the majority owner of Sohio in the 1970s in return for a stake in the Prudhoe Bay oil field in Alaska. With the complete takeover by BP from 1991, the Sohio and Boron stations were continued under the BP brand. While there are no more gas stations under the name Sohio, as yet, there are some tanks in the ports on Lake Erie and the Ohio under the Sohio logo. With the merger of BP and Amoco, the company headquarters was moved in 1998 from the Sohio Building in Cleveland to Chicago.
