Stanislaus Czerniewicz

Stanislaw Czerniewicz ( born August 15, 1728 in Kaunas, † July 7, 1785 in Staiki ) was the Vicar General of the Society of Jesus in Russia.

Life

The Jesuit order was suppressed in 1773 by Pope Clement XIV, and so it took after the death of the 18th Superior General Lorenzo Ricci in 1775, some years before the Order of the approval of Pius VI. got to continue with his activities in Russia and a new leader to choose ( with the title of Vicar-General ). The election took place on October 17, 1782 fell on Stanislaw Czerniewicz.

The Russian empress Catherine the Great Czerniewicz confirmed in his office. He died on 7 July in 1785.
