Stanisław Bobak

Stanisław Bobak ( born March 12, 1956 in Zab at Zakopane, † November 12, 2010 ) was a Polish ski jumper.

Career

He took the age of sixteen for the first time participated in the Four Hills Tournament. Since the mid- 1970s until his retirement after the 1980/81 World Cup season, he scored a world leader in ski jumping. In the Four Hills Tournament 1974/75 he was fifth overall, in the following year sixth. When in season 1979/80 inaugural Ski Jumping World Cup he finished third overall, also succeeded him in the World Cup competition on January 26, 1980 to his home hill in Zakopane his only victory at the international level.

His greatest successes came at the national level: on the large hill ( K90 ) was Bobak 1976, 1978, 1979 and 1981 Polish champion in 1975, 1977, 1980 runner-up; on the normal hill ( K70 ) he won in 1976, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1975, 1977, 1980 Second.

After Bobak in Innsbruck was at the Olympic Winter Games in 1976 still 28 on the normal hill and 37th on the large hill, he reached the 10th place of the normal and the 22nd place on the large hill at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.

At the age of only 25 years Bobak had to end his ski jumping career due to a serious spinal injury.
