Stanley Woodward Davenport

Stanley Woodward Davenport ( born July 21, 1861 in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, † September 26, 1921 ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Stanley Davenport attended the common schools and the Wyoming Seminary. Then he studied until 1884 at Wesleyan University in Middletown (Connecticut). After a subsequent law degree in 1890 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in Plymouth in this profession. In 1893 he became a director, secretary and treasurer of the poor care in Luzerne County. From 1894 to 1897 he was the notary for wills. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1898 Davenport was in the twelfth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Morgan B. Williams on March 4, 1899. Since he has not been confirmed in 1900, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1901. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Davenport practiced as a lawyer again. He died on 26 September 1921 in his native Plymouth.
